How it works
If your employer has signed up with the state's Health Connector, you can shop for a brand-name Commonwealth Choice health plan. The plans carry the state’s Seal of Approval.
Your monthly premiums will be paid before any state or federal taxes are taken from your paycheck. That gives you more buying power - up to 41% more buying power. It depends on your tax rate.
Health insurance is now required in Massachusetts
The savings may bring health insurance into your reach. That's good news because most Massachusetts adults are now required to have health insurance.
Most Massachusetts adults must now have health insurance or face tax penalties of up to $912 this year. But insurance is not cheap. Ready to get health insurance? If your employer has signed-up with the Health Connector, you will receive a letter or an email. It will provide an employer I.D. number.
- Enter the employer I.D. number.
- Once you complete that first step, we'll tell you if you might qualify for a low or no-cost Commonwealth Care plan.
- Shop and enroll in one of the new plans that the Health Connector offers from major insurers.
You'll notice that the plans we offer are grouped into Gold, Silver and Bronze, based on price and benefits. We also offer a special Young Adults Plan for independent 18-26 year-olds.
An important note on payments
We must receive your payment at least 5 business days prior to the 1st day of the month when you want your health coverage to begin.
Make certain that the full payment is collected and made in time for your start date. You can make a direct payment to the Health Connector to prevent a delay if your payroll deductions fall short.
