Act now.

Most Massachusetts residents must have health insurance.  The tax penalties for 2008 can be as high as $912 if you stay uninsured for the whole year.

The state's Health Connector is here to help you find the right health plan and avoid tax penalties.

Commonwealth Choice gives you better prices and benefits from brand-name health plans.

Don't think that you can afford an insurance plan?  You might be eligible for a no or low-cost Commonwealth Care plan.  We'll let you know.

People who don't qualify for a government-subsidized plan and can't afford insurance may be exempt from the tax penalties.  Use our Affordability Tool or apply for a Certificate of Exemption.

Self Employed?

Income is considered when you apply for Commonwealth Care.  Income for self-employed people is based on total business income, as reported on U.S. Tax Returns.  Contact us.

Is your employer involved?

Yes:   Go to our “for employees” area. Use your employer ID number to shop for a Commonwealth Choice plan.

No:    Talk to your payroll coordinator. Find out if you work for one of the 3000 Massachusetts employers that can deduct your Commonwealth Choice payments before taxes are taken from your paycheck. You may be able to save up to 40% on the net cost of a health plan.

A note on payments:  Once you choose a Commonwealth Choice plan, we'll need to receive your 1st payment at least 5 business days before the 1st day of the month when you want your coverage to begin.  Learn more about our enrollment and billing options.
